Benefits of Membership

Why join a credit union? It's simple, really. Banks are profit-driven investment vehicles for people and corporations other than the customers they serve. Credit Unions are not-for-profit cooperatives owned and operated by the very people they serve. In our case, our membership is open to anyone who works in healthcare within Mobile, Baldwin, and Escambia Counties in Alabama and their immediate family members. Already have an immediate family member who is a TIFCU member? That qualifies you, too!

We have a solution for every need in your life. Whether you’re looking to save or borrow, everything those big banks do, we do better. The Infirmary Federal Credit Union (TIFCU) members enjoy 24/7 anywhere access to their accounts through Online Banking, our Touch Banking App & Bill Pay, Debit and Credit Cards, 24hr Telephone Access Service (TAS), thousands of Shared Branches, and more ATMs worldwide than even most big banks. Once you're a TIFCU member, you're always a member, no matter where you go.

We love seeing our TIFCU family grow, and can’t wait to have you as one of our owners. That’s right, we said owner. As a member of TIFCU, your opening deposit of $5 is actually a share of the credit union. This share makes you an owner! You are able to voice your opinion about the credit union and take advantage of the savings and earnings through reduced interest rates and increased dividends.

Joining our credit union is easy, and there is no fee for membership; we simply require a deposit of $5 into a savings account which is called your Share Account. That $5 is always yours, and should you ever decide to leave us (but we hope you stay forever), we’ll return it to you.

The documents you’ll need to open an account are below. Remember, you must bring the same documents for each family member you would like to add to your accounts, as joint owners must also sign the account card:

  • Valid government-issued ID, Driver’s License or Passport

  • U.S. Social Security (SSN) card or Tax Identification (TIN) documentation

  • An initial deposit of at least $5

  • Proof of eligibility (time badge, check stub, letter from employer, etc.)

TIFCU is federally insured by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF), which is backed by the full faith and credit of the United States Government. Your share insurance is similar to deposit insurance provided by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Share accounts are insured up to $250,000, an amount equal to the insurance protection offered by the FDIC.
